I have big news!
Things have been quiet here on the blog lately, but with good reason. There is now a whole new section on my resume:
Book editing!
I started doing some beta reading for a friend (best-selling author, AJ Skelly), and it turns out that I’m pretty good at proofreading and editing. So I’ve been providing freelance editing services for her publishing house, Quill and Flame Publishing.
And I love it!
I will never claim to be a professional writer. The creativity just isn’t there. However, I’m darn good at taking what other people have written and tweaking it so that their work shines. My analytical brain loves to refine details and ideas to help them become clearer and more vibrant.
In my opinion, that gives me a unique view of a manuscript.
And so, Literary Pearl Editing Services was created. Everything else has kind of been pushed to the back burner as I’ve gotten started. In addition to the actual book editing and proofreading, I’ve also set up a website and social media accounts to begin networking and gaining new clients. Sadly, that means there has been almost no baking and very little non-work-related reading going on. (Although I did make this banana bread as a gift for our honorary daughter last week. Judah was sad that he didn’t get any so I’ll probably make more this week.)
My genre specialty is in young adult, new adult, fantasy, and some romance fiction manuscripts. These are what I read the most personally so it only makes sense that I focus on those areas. However, since I also read other types of fiction, I’m willing to consider other genres if they come up.
I am also accepting clients outside of Q&F. If you know of anyone looking to have their fiction manuscript edited, have them check out https://literarypearlediting.com for more information.
Now you’re all caught up with my life. Do you have any fun new hobbies or jobs to keep you busy this summer? I’d love to hear all about it!
